PGD for Single Gene Disorders
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) for single gene disorders is a form of genetic testing that allows couples who are at risk for transmitting genetic disease to have unaffected children. PGD includes an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle, testing of embryos at risk and a subsequent frozen embryo transfer.
Some of the more common single gene disorders for which PGD can be utilized include cystic fibrosis, fragile X syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy, myotonic dystrophy, tuberous sclerosis, and polycystic kidney disease. In addition, it is possible to test for many other genetic disorders.
CCRM offers PGD for single gene disorders which include the IVF cycle, genetic testing and embryo transfer of unaffected embryos.
